I genuinely do not understand the high reviews this studio inspires unless the goal is to recreate the experience of paying premium prices to feel vaguely judged for 60 minutes. First of all: the space is absurdly small. They pack people mat-to-mat like sardines while pretending it creates “community.” In reality, it creates a sweaty obstacle course where you spend half the class trying not to inhale someone else’s hair or get kicked during transitions. There is no room to breathe, no room to stretch, and certainly no sense of calm. The music is also too loud. Not energizing - it's loud. Like someone handed an aux cord to a wellness influencer with unresolved aggression. You can barely hear the instructor over the pounding bass, which is especially impressive considering half the instructors barely cue properly to begin with. And the temperature? Somehow both freezing and suffocating at the same time. Cold air blasting while bodies are crammed shoulder-to-shoulder into a dimly lit room with bizarre social energy. It feels less like a yoga studio and more like a performative networking event for people who want credit for “healing.” But the weirdest part is the culture. The entire place radiates fake niceness - the kind where everyone smiles at you with dead eyes while silently assessing whether you fit the aesthetic. There is a very obvious hyper-specific LA look they reward and embrace, and if you don’t align with it, the energy shifts immediately. Staff suddenly become colder, less accommodating, less welcoming. It’s subtle enough to maintain plausible deniability, but consistent enough to notice. The studio markets itself as inclusive and community-oriented, but the actual vibe is cliquey, image-obsessed, and deeply insincere. It feels like a place where being thin, trendy, affluent, and socially connected matters far more than whether you’re actually there to practice yoga. There are countless studios that create genuine warmth, accessibility, and grounded community. This is not one of them. This is wellness cosplay for people who confuse exclusivity with spirituality.

I love this studio very much, especially as someone new to yoga, the staff, the classes, and simply the aura is exceptional here. Stephen is a wonderful teacher and gives an Incredible Vinyasa class. I highly recommend!!

Soul Play yoga is a main stay of downtown Culver City. During the pandemic, they have moved to a lovely outdoor location where they’ve been holding socially distanced, masked classes while also live-streaming. There is a full schedule of classes from restorative to strong vinyasa flow. Parking is easy. Advance reservation for class via the web site.

I want to say overall this is an amazing studio. The community is wonderful, truly. My girlfriend loves classes here and raves about it. I joined her and am not a yoga person but loved it. We did Nicolette’s Saturday 9am class and were thrilled. Nicolette is an excellent teacher with a very special energy.
