Very unprofessionally managed studio. I went one time on January 2nd and they insisted on collecting my personal data on their iPad, but didn’t give me an opportunity to give them the cash I had in my hand because the instructor wouldn’t stop talking with other students. Even though she checked me in personally and there were only 2 students and she knew that I had never been to the studio before. 2 weeks later and I receive a text message from Skip (never met him) requesting me to Venmo for the class I unknowingly didn’t pay for. Upon telling them that they should be contacting their employee who didn’t do their job instead of me, I was told I am no longer welcome at the studio anyways (real mature of you Skip). I’ve been to more yoga studios in more cities than I can count and have never ever had the teacher fail to check me in. I’ve never been accused of “stealing” a class. And I have absolutely never ever received a text message from a studio requesting money weeks after a class I’d taken. I’m glad that my first time at this studio was also my last. And that Skip was able to let me know that I wasn’t welcome, because I certainly barely felt welcome the first time I was there. Glad to know I wasn’t crazy.

Amazing energy from the moment you walk through the front door. The staff always welcomes you and makes you feel right at home. The teachers are fantastic and personable. There’s an excellent variation of different types of classes that anyone can find something to suit their style of yoga. Very clean and peaceful atmosphere. They have a great selection of teas to choose from and a really nice sauna complimentary to all students. Best yoga studio in Arcata!

I recently participated in the 2022 Dia De Muertos Oaxaca Ashtanga retreat with Joey Paz, and wow was that a life changing experience! The retreat was thoughtfully executed to include all aspects (or limbs) of Ashtanga while also incorporating the transitional wisdom of the national holiday of Dia De Muertos. Every morning was filled with 2 and half hours of ashtanga practice in a beautiful location with incredible weather. Suffice to say it was intense and there was a lot of sweating, but Joey kept all participant’s experiences and abilities in mind while teaching. Each morning asana practice began and ended with chanting mantras and ended in a pranayama practice with fresh and local coconuts to rehydrate. Everyday included amble time to head to the local beaches and towns or to just relax at the retreat house. This retreat, ran by Joey Paz, who is well-versed in yoga philosophy, did well to honor both the roots of the practice as well as the lands and traditions of the culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. I left with a deeper knowledge of how to deepen my yoga practice and, in turn, my relationship to Self. This retreat was renewing for the mind, body and spirit AND incredibly affordable. I would highly recommend using yoga as a method to visit Mexico with this retreat.

Beautiful, warm, clean and kind. Great atmosphere. Good vibes. I love Sasha's class. It's challenging yet easy to tone down or pipe up depending on each yogi's personal needs. -and great music.

The vinyasa classes are all too similar. Not enough integration of poses mostly a lot of Vinyasa through to downward dog. The bathrooms are really dirty. The sauna is always at mild to medium heat never very hot. The whole studio has a vibe of holier than than you and the front desk woman treats you like you're lucky to be there instead of the other way around. Her sparkly eyeshadow and wacky personality doesn't help curb her passive aggressive attitude. Samantha's classes are the best. All too often you'll hear Studio drama being talked about openly. I don't need to hear other yoga teachers criticize each other. That's not why I'm going to yoga. Gossip is rampant here. Omshala has more of a negative feel to it due to the air of pompous people who make it their business to assess your own personal growth instead of just minding their own business and practicing yoga. Peggy's classes seem preachy as if she's got some lesson she wants to teach everyone because she knows more than them or something. Other than her piousness her classes are good for learning alignment. She is a really great teacher despite the way she comes across. Overall, I think this studio has a few good teachers yet they lose a lot of points because they think that they're the best studio in town. Well it might be aesthetically pleasing it's not pleasing to the heart.
