Special Education Students Gain Work Experience at Niles Pie
Young adults in a local transition program are developing vocational skills through hands-on work at Niles Pie Company.

Students in the local Young Adult Program have spent the past year building vocational experience through an ongoing partnership with Niles Pie Company in historic Niles. Designed for young people up to age 22 who hold individualized education programs, the transition initiative aims to prepare participants for independent adulthood by introducing them to everyday workplace expectations.
During daytime volunteer shifts at the bakery, participants assemble pie boxes, fold takeout packaging, and apply logo stickers before orders head out to customers. Students also receive a stipend check funded through a dedicated grant, giving them practical practice earning money while building teamwork and customer service habits in a professional kitchen environment.
