Proposed Old Auburn Road Roundabouts Prompt Debate Among Citrus Heights Neighbors
A trail improvement project along Old Auburn Road has sparked community discussion over proposed single-lane roundabouts.
A proposed infrastructure project designed to enhance bicycling and pedestrian connections along Old Auburn Road is drawing debate from Citrus Heights residents over planned intersection designs. The Citrus Heights Gateway trail initiative includes proposals to construct three single-lane roundabouts along the corridor.
The roundabout locations are being planned for intersections at Argo Drive, Wachtel Way, and Oakwood Hills Circle near Linda Creek Court. City planners indicate the roundabouts would help moderate vehicle speeds and lower the risk of severe collisions while accommodating pedestrians and cyclists.
While some residents appreciate the added crosswalk features and traffic calming, others have voiced concerns about navigation difficulties, potential traffic slowdowns, and changes to the rural character of the neighborhood as design reviews move forward.
