Palo Alto Link Prepares for Final Run as Riders Face Transit Gaps
Riders expressed concern over losing mobility options as the city on-demand transit pilot nears its October shutdown.

Palo Alto Link, the subsidized on-demand transit service launched in 2023, is preparing to make its final trips on October 30. Local riders, including seniors and families of residents with disabilities, have raised concerns about losing a reliable transportation option for medical appointments and daily errands.
The City Council decided earlier this summer to conclude its contract with transit operator Via, citing high operational costs. Running the on-demand shuttle required a local subsidy of approximately $700,000 each year after initial county grant funding ended.
City staff members are considering targeted transit vouchers to support vulnerable residents, but many community members remain worried about the transit void created by the full system shutdown.
