Oakland Mayor Seeks New Advisor for Mission-Driven Tech Startups
A $100,000 grant from the Kapor Foundation will fund a city role to help reduce regulatory hurdles for socially minded technology companies.

Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee has proposed hiring a new advisor in her office to help social impact technology companies navigate municipal rules. The position is backed by a $100,000 grant and technical support from the Oakland-based Kapor Foundation through its P.R.I.M.E. Alliance initiative, a collaborative project aimed at supporting startups focused on community needs.
The incoming staff member will be tasked with identifying bureaucratic obstacles within city government and helping startups that work in areas such as housing, transportation, and childcare. City officials hope the focused effort will encourage responsible entrepreneurs to establish roots and create local jobs in Oakland.
