Oakland Firefighters Rescue Resident and Three Dogs From West Oakland Blaze
Emergency crews extinguished an early morning motor home blaze near the West Oakland BART station, saving one resident and three dogs.
Oakland firefighters came to the aid of a resident and three dogs early Tuesday morning after a recreation vehicle caught fire in West Oakland. The blaze broke out shortly before 6:30 a.m. directly below the elevated tracks near the West Oakland BART station, creating a tall column of smoke visible to morning travelers throughout the corridor.
Fire crews arrived quickly to tackle the flames and successfully brought the occupant and all three dogs out of the burning vehicle. Fire department communications indicated that at least one dog was tied up when the fire started, but crews managed to free the animal, which suffered only minor burns.
Animal control workers were summoned to look after the dogs, while first responders provided care to the resident at the scene. BART trains continued running above the incident without disruption, and investigators are continuing to look into what started the fire.
