Nonprofit Orchard Restoration Group Marks First Anniversary in Fremont
Volunteers with CORE are celebrating a full year of revitalizing historic California Nursery fruit trees.

The California Orchard Restoration Experiment, known as CORE, celebrated its first full year of operations at the California Nursery Historical Park. Over the past twelve months, volunteer stewards have worked to preserve and rehabilitate neglected historic fruit trees while planting new stock across the grounds.
The volunteer team reported a 90 percent success rate among young grafted apple trees planted over the winter. In addition, decades-old apricot trees are receiving regular pruning and soil care after years of overgrowth.
The Fremont City Council recently approved extending CORE's partnership through multi-year agreements, allowing the nonprofit to continue hosting Tuesday community workdays and educational sessions for local residents.
