NASA Displaces Local Hammer Throwers from Moffett Field Facility
Track and field athletes have lost access to their longtime practice circle at Moffett Field ahead of planned demolition.
Local track and field athletes have officially vacated their longtime practice area at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View. Federal officials set a mid-August deadline for throwers to clear the site to make way for future demolition and redevelopment projects on the airfield grounds.
The concrete throwing ring served master athletes and competitive throwers across the Bay Area for decades as one of the few dedicated hammer-throwing facilities in the region. Displaced athletes expressed frustration over the sudden closure, noting that finding specialized throwing venues with proper safety cages remains extremely difficult in Silicon Valley.
