Mountain View Cinemark Century 16 Faces Potential Closure
Employees report that the long-standing movie theater on Shoreline Boulevard is set to close later this month.

Film fans in Mountain View may soon say goodbye to a neighborhood staple. Staff members at the Cinemark Century 16 complex on Shoreline Boulevard have indicated that the theater is scheduled to permanently shut down on September 24. While corporate parent Cinemark has yet to make a formal public statement regarding the site, theater workers confirmed that plans are already underway to end screenings.
The location has deep roots in the community. It initially opened in 1962 as a drive-in destination before transforming into an indoor multiplex in 1984. Local moviegoers have frequented the venue for decades, making it a familiar gathering spot next to Shoreline Amphitheatre.
