A shallow morning earthquake centered along the East Bay shook Fremont and neighboring cities Thursday.
Residents across Fremont, San Leandro, and nearby East Bay communities felt sudden shaking Thursday morning following a magnitude 3.8 earthquake. According to data from the U.S. Geological Survey, the temblor struck at 8:30 a.m. at a shallow depth near the Hayward Fault zone.
The initial tremor was followed roughly 37 minutes later by a pair of smaller aftershocks measuring magnitude 3.0 and 2.8. Shaking was felt widely across Alameda County and into San Francisco, prompting BART to temporarily slow trains for track safety inspections.
Local authorities reported no immediate injuries or structural damage following the sequence. City officials reminded residents to review local fault zone maps and ensure personal emergency preparedness plans remain up to date.
