Menlo Park Library to Feature Chautauqua Performance on Kasturba Gandhi
The Menlo Park Library will host a live living-history performance portraying civil rights figure Kasturba Gandhi on October 3.

The Menlo Park Library is presenting scholar and performer Roopa Mohan on Saturday, October 3, for a live Chautauqua portrayal of Indian freedom activist Kasturba Gandhi. The free community gathering is part of the library's 11th annual Storytelling Festival.
The performance highlights Kasturba Gandhi's personal civil rights work and leadership in South Africa and India, looking past her traditional recognition merely as Mahatma Gandhi's spouse. The presentation follows the historic Chautauqua model, opening with an in-character monologue, followed by audience questions to the character, and concluding with an out-of-character historical discussion.
The event takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the library facility on Alma Street, supported by funding from the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
