Invasive Mosquitoes Detected in Fremont's Irvington Neighborhood

County mosquito control crews have stepped up surveillance and containment efforts in Fremont after detecting invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the Irvington district on August 12 [3.1.2]. These daytime-biting mosquitoes are known for laying eggs in small artificial containers and can pose health risks if populations grow unchecked.

In response to the discovery, the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District conducted truck-mounted larval treatments across the surrounding streets to prevent newly laid eggs from developing into adults. Field inspectors are also canvassing neighborhood properties to identify potential breeding spots in backyards and outdoor areas.

Local officials encourage Fremont residents to inspect their yards, empty standing water from potted plant trays and buckets, and report any aggressive daytime mosquito bites directly to the abatement district office.
