Hayward Approves Transition to Axon Automated License Plate Cameras
Hayward is replacing its existing automated license plate readers with an updated Axon camera system.

The City of Hayward has approved a transition from its current Flock automated license plate reader system to cameras operated by Axon. The new network of cameras will be deployed across major corridors to support regional traffic monitoring and law enforcement investigations.
City officials noted that the switch is designed to streamline technological integration with existing police recording systems while ensuring strict guidelines govern how captured vehicle data is retained and accessed.
The system automatically checks license plates against regional databases for stolen vehicles and active warrants, while data not linked to crimes will remain subject to municipal privacy safeguards.
