Fremont Unified School District Takes Positions on State Tax Measures
The school board passed resolutions backing Proposition 3 and opposing Proposition 43 ahead of the November election.
The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education has formally adopted positions on two statewide ballot measures slated for the November election. During a recent public meeting, board trustees approved formal resolutions addressing Proposition 3 and Proposition 43.
The board expressed support for Proposition 3, which asks voters to permanently extend an income tax increase on high earners originally passed in 2012. According to the school district, roughly 90 percent of the revenues generated by that measure support K-12 public education across California, with another 11 percent benefiting community colleges before the law expires in 2031.
In a second resolution, trustees voted to oppose Proposition 43. That initiative would raise the threshold for local tax and bond proposals from a simple majority to a two-thirds vote, a change that district leaders cautioned could make it significantly harder for local communities to fund school upgrades and essential services.
