Fremont Names New Central Park Trail After Late Mayor Gus Morrison
The Fremont Recreation Commission voted to name a new park walkway near the downtown library in honor of longtime former mayor Gus Morrison.

The Fremont Recreation Commission voted unanimously to designate a new pedestrian path bordering Central Park and the Fremont Main Library as the Gus Morrison Trail. The trail runs adjacent to the open space surrounding the city's upcoming community center project.
The tribute honors the legacy of Gus Morrison, who served 15 years as Fremont's mayor and spent nearly three decades in public office before passing away in late 2023. Family members attended the commission meeting to celebrate Morrison's lifelong contributions to local governance.
During his time in office, Morrison was well known for his advocacy for open space preservation, including efforts to protect the Fremont hills from overdevelopment and expand the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
