Fremont Approves New Sculptures and Mosaics for Park Expansion
Fremont City Council has selected an interactive sculpture and mosaic artwork to enhance Centerville Community Park by late 2027.
Fremont City Council has approved artist selections for permanent public art installations at Centerville Community Park as part of the facility's ongoing expansion project. The site improvements, scheduled for completion by September 2027, will feature interactive artwork intended to engage park visitors of all ages.
The chosen centerpiece is Colin Selig's "Arachnicat," an orange-red sculpture crafted from repurposed steel propane tanks combining feline and insect elements. Designed for climbing and seating, similar installations have gained popularity across the East Bay. Alongside the sculpture, the council selected Rita Soyfertis's mosaic titled "Draping Botanic" to adorn the exterior walls of the park's upcoming bocce ball courts, with a backup floral design prepared by artist Kala Stein celebrating local wildflowers.
