Developer Trims Affordable Units in Proposed Gamel Way Condos
A developer utilizing state builder's remedy rules has submitted a revised proposal reducing the affordable units planned for a 216-home complex.

A contentious redevelopment proposal on Gamel Way in Mountain View took a new turn after the applicant submitted a last-minute adjustment reducing the number of designated affordable homes. The project envisions replacing 29 older rent-controlled apartments with a seven-story complex holding 216 condominiums.
The developer has invoked California's builder's remedy law, which limits local planning authority when jurisdictions fall behind on regional housing targets. Mountain View officials held a public hearing on the plan, while the City Council still faces a separate decision on whether to sell Gamel Way itself, a public road that must be acquired to allow construction.
