The sushi they have at Sasa is great, but the ambiance, price, and relatively small size of its menu prevent me from giving it a higher rating. When I went recently the tables are sticky and I don’t think the booth we sat in matched the price point of the menu (although the tabletop is pretty cool). For what we are paying, I would have liked to see more fish and rolls on the menu. I’m allergic to crab and no other seafood, and almost all of the rolls have crab which was disappointing.

We had a lovely Sunday afternoon date night at Sasa. For ambiance, the restaurant has an upscale, modern vibe with earthy elements. There's a pretty water feature next to the front entrance which you can hear in the side patio. We requested outdoor seating. There is a front patio that butts against the street, and a side patio that's much more secluded and quiet. I noted that all of the couples were seated in the side patio, and a family was seated in the front, which I think helps keep the mood romantic for the couples. The food was mostly delicious, and had a high class vibe with fun flair. We tried the special soft shell crab bao buns and grilled octopus (with yummy romesco sauce). The soft shell crab was perfectly breaded and the buns were fresh. The scallop crudo and tuna tiradito were both very yummy, but we agreed the scallop needed a little more salt. We also got the sashimi sampler, which had high quality fish but was nothing special, and a spicy tuna hand roll. The spicy tuna came in chunks (not diced) with an intense garlic chili oil and bitter frisse. I think the balance was a bit off, and I would have preferred the traditional diced tuna to better distribute the spicy sauce. Overall, service was excellent. We were seated promptly and asked if we liked our table. Our server, a tall young woman, was really sweet and attentive. The only negative was that the hostess was wearing very intense perfume, which kind of killed the food vibe whenever she walked by to seat someone else. Sasa is a lovely spot with chefs and servers clearly putting in the work. It's a little pricey, but we'll be back again to see what new specials they're offering!

I had one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life here. Before ordering, I clearly informed the staff about my shellfish allergy and made sure to ask multiple times whether the dish contained shrimp. After eating, I immediately started feeling symptoms of an allergic reaction and told the staff that I was having an allergy attack. Instead of taking it seriously, they continued arguing with me and insisted there was absolutely no shrimp in the dish. As my reaction became worse, the manager finally admitted that the dish actually did contain shrimp and apologized. Even after that, the waiter never apologized and continued arguing instead of helping. What shocked me the most was that not a single person from the staff offered medical assistance, asked if I needed an ambulance, or helped me get to the ER while I was clearly having a serious allergic reaction. Food allergies are life threatening, not a joke or something to argue about. If you have any food allergies, I definitely do not recommend going there.

Sad because this was one of my favorite restaurants previously. Returned and brought a friend to find they started cutting corners. The food is just not the same. One of my favorite dishes was the eggplant dish. It used to be so amazing, with the perfect amount of crisp. Now you order it and the presentation isnt the same and it sure doesnt have the same finesse. They traded cloth napkins for paper ones and bigger portions for mediocre food. Really disappointed in my meal, this place used to be so on point.

Sasa is amazing! Great sushi, incredible steak, and an atmosphere that made the whole evening feel like a real night out. The music was so great and the energy was just right; lively without being too loud. The staff were wonderful and attentive, and went out of their way to accommodate a member of our group with food allergies, which meant a lot. This is the kind of elevated Japanese experience that’s hard to find, and Walnut Creek is lucky to have it. Highly recommend.
