I had lunch here with my family, and it was hands down the worst and most disgusting dining experience we have ever had. The food itself didn't taste good at all, but that quickly became the least of our worries. While we were eating, another customer (an Asian lady sitting near us) found a piece of wire inside her food. If that wasn't alarming enough, we then found a huge insect (an earwig) baked right inside our bread. Finding physical contaminants and pests in the food indicates a complete and utter lack of hygiene, pest control, and quality checks in the kitchen. This is a massive health violation and incredibly dangerous. Eating here is a massive risk to your health. We will never step foot in this place again, and a formal complaint is being filed with the Alameda County Environmental Health Department. Save your family the trouble and avoid this place at all costs.

When this restaurant opened decades ago in Fremont the food was incredibly delicious. 3 years ago, I was served spoiled food and stopped going. I still go back ocassionally to see if they have improved. I went this month and the bhuna ghosh and chicken haleem are both bland and tasteless. The Fremont location seems to have lost the original recipes and no-one has noticed. Or are they cutting costs by removing ingredients ? I went to the SF location last month and their food was excellent and tasty. Service is of course self serve and no tips required. Sadly, I will not be going back to this location again.

I was very disappointed to find hair in my food. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about cleanliness and food safety. The hygiene standards seem nonexistent. I will definitely not be recommending this place.

I have been dining at shalimar since 1998, this restaurant's food is outstanding! Once you try it, you will keep coming back, it is addictive. I highly recommend this restaurant without any reservations.

I've been going there for decades ever since my Pakistani friends brought me there. They have the best grilled chicken legs I've ever had. They look like Indian tandoori chicken but taste is vastly superior. They also have other Northern Indian/Pakistan things such as lamb (or mutton) curry, lamb brain, naan, etc but the one thing I keep coming back for are the chicken legs. They also serve chicken breast/wing but if you are a foodie you know the legs would taste better. The grill is just perfect as outside is slightly charred but inside is super tender. Although my Pakistani friends love their naan I found that to be lacking because the naan is thicker than I'd like. This place used to be the original and then they opened multiple stores including ones in Sunnyvale and a couple in the city but now only the Fremont and one of the SF locations are still operating. There is no service as you basically grab what you need yourself. You also don't have to pay for tips unless you want to. Overall this is the highest quality Pakistani grilled chicken you can get even if you go to Pakistan (according to my friends). There is usually no wait and I do recommend coming here to eat instead of go to because chicken pieces are grilled after you order and taste the best while hot.
