I was so excited to see a new jiu jitsu gym open up right here in my neighborhood. Matt and Rafael offer excellent instruction and a fun and friendly atmosphere for training. Sumo’s Family Jiu Jitsu has great mats, and you can’t beat the location in the heart of Foster City.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience at Sumo’s Family Jiu Jitsu in Foster City. Professor Matt and Professor Raf are both excellent instructors, knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping their students improve. As someone who is relatively new to Jiu Jitsu, I really appreciate how welcoming the environment is. They do a great job breaking down techniques, explaining not just what to do but why it works, and making sure everyone feels comfortable while still being challenged. What really stands out is the culture. Everyone is friendly, respectful, and supportive, and it truly feels like a family rather than just another gym. There’s a great balance between serious training and having fun. Professor Matt and Professor Raf have created an environment where I actually look forward to coming to class and continuing to learn. If you’re thinking about trying Jiu Jitsu (whether you’re a complete beginner or have previous experience) I highly recommend Sumo’s Family Jiu Jitsu. 🥋 Oss!

Great new Jiu Jitsu gym in Foster City with a very welcoming atmosphere, high-level instructors and a strong sense of community. Definitely a great place to train whether you’re brand new or experienced.
