Camps Restaurant While staying at WorldMark in Angels Camp, we were gifted a certificate for Camps Restaurant. The staff is friendly and very approachable. Our Fried Ravioli and Bread with Butter came to the table rather quickly. I truly liked the ravioli but I loved the bread. I am very much a carb lover as much as I am a steak lover. So a warm crusty bread and soft uber spreadable butter is one of life’s greatest pleasures (yes, the bread is an $8 charge). However my enthusiasm couldn’t continue throughout our meal. Although my Rib-eye Steak was cooked perfectly the way I like it, the vegetables on the side were very drab and overcooked. The spicy Brussels Sprouts had a good flavor. I wish they were slightly spicier, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. My wife’s Sole Almandine was a tad under seasoned and her vegetables were as drab and overcooked as mine. A quick blanche then saute would have done wonders for the sole. In contrast, the mashed potatoes she ordered on the side were perfect. For dessert, we ordered the Creme Brûlée. This was the perfect way to end our meal here. The creme brûlée was creamy and had the perfect amount of sweetness.

This review is regarding the Mother’s Day brunch.. for $68 per adult I was pretty disappointed. It was my first time going so I’m not sure if they have offered it in the past but I will say that I would not go again and do not recommend.. here’s why… for $68 they don’t include any drinks but water and to me that’s ridiculous, they could include tea and soft drinks. Now the food was pretty good but was highly monitored by “servers”.. some things you could get on your own like salad and rolls but not much else… the other things they portioned out for you. And this is what sealed the never again for me… I went back ONCE after my first plate for a couple things I enjoyed, one of those being the potatoes.. well when the server opened the lid on the dish there was just a corner left .. OK.. well, he then proceeded to scrape the stuck potatoes at the bottom of the pan and serve it to me and ask if that was ok?… to which I then asked for some of the corner that was left.. he then served me the tiniest bit from that corner and told me sorry that’s all I can do cuz I don’t know if there’s any left in the back.. like HUH? That’s nuts .. I’m paying $68 to eat a brunch buffet and can’t get a decent portion of potatoes because we now have to ration for someone else who’s not there to get potatoes?.. I couldn’t believe it. Then we were being hounded to pay our tab and the food was removed with no warning like a hey if you’d like anything else now is the time cuz we are closing the food .. NOPE. On top of that the desserts were highly disappointing not good at all. And the place had flys all over to which they had fly fans by all the food .. yet they kept the front door open… why? I don’t know.. but I do know for $68 per adult and $28 per 12 and under I expected way better.. and way better buffet/server etiquette.

Came to the restaurant for lunch on Saturday around 1pm. Restaurant was mostly empty but the hostess led us to the table with no view right by the doors, when I said we would like seat at literally any other table she looked annoyed. No small talk or even a half smile. The waiter came out to take our drink order looking like he was a busboy who was asked to do someone else’s job. Again, no smiles, no small talk. Menu was pretty basic, actually for the golf course restaurant it was pretty mediocre. We ordered a couple of sandwiches. I am not going to talk about my husband’s sandwich but I ordered the chicken pesto and at was a disaster. I think it takes a special talent to make a sandwich that bad. Pesto was in reality a mayo with a bit of pesto mixed in; the chicken I could not tell what it tasted like since it was so small and covered in somewhat melted lump of cheese of dubious origin. It was topped with plastic tasting paper thin tomato slices and a piece of cold iceberg lettuce. On a side came French fries that were all oil. The waiter/ busboy forgot to mention that we could have a choice of soup or salad instead of the fries. Although I don’t think it would be better. The whole thing tasted like a cardboard. When I told him that the food tasted subpar he just stared. Not a word of apology or anything. Meanwhile the couple at the next table was leaving and the lady said to her partner “Oh well, we won’t be coming back here”. I have to say the same thing. Sadly because the location is beautiful.

By far, worst dinner ever at Camps! This has been our go to restaurant for our anniversary for at least 10 years. It’s no wonder this restaurant is empty! Made reservations for 6:15 for our 33rd anniversary. Arrived at 5:45. Seated by 5:55, cocktails ordered by 6ish. Dinner doesn’t arrive till 6:50. Granted, 4 tables seated, in the whole restaurant. FOUR! Ordered Filet mignon medium, comes over well done and as tough as boot leather. Chicken Marsala mediocre at best. Atmosphere and location could not be more beautiful at Greenhorn. What a shame this is the new standard. Do Better Camps! We won’t be back!

Service was excellent. But all four main course dishes were terrible. The shrimp scampi was floating in a bowl of water...not even the sauce they described. We left most of the food on our plates uneaten other then the appetizer. The artichoke dip was great.
