Low-Cost Cat Spay & Neuter Clinic Opens in Citrus Heights
FieldHaven Feline Center has opened a new low-cost cat spay and neuter clinic on Old Auburn Road in Citrus Heights, offering affordable surgeries, vaccines, microchipping, and support for community cats.

Citrus Heights now has a new option for affordable cat care.
FieldHaven Feline Center officially opened its Citrus Heights Spay/Neuter Clinic on September 21 at 7569 Old Auburn Road, bringing lower-cost spay and neuter services directly into the community.
What the New Clinic Offers
The clinic is focused primarily on making basic preventive care more accessible for cat owners, rescuers, and people caring for community cats.
Services include:
- Affordable spay and neuter surgeries
- Low-cost vaccinations
- Microchipping
- Support for community and feral cats
- Trap-neuter-return services
Appointments are required, and FieldHaven says cats receiving an ear tip as part of a community-cat program must arrive in an appropriate trap.
How Much Does It Cost?
FieldHaven currently lists spay and neuter pricing at $195 for owned cats and $75 for community cats.
The organization says the goal is to expand access to services that can otherwise become expensive for families, independent rescuers, and people managing neighborhood cat colonies.
From Preschool Property to Animal Services
The Old Auburn Road property has gone through a major transition.
The site was formerly home to Citrus Heights Preschool, which operated there for decades before closing in 2024. The City of Citrus Heights later purchased the property as part of plans to expand local animal services.
The city approved an agreement with FieldHaven Feline Center to establish the low-cost clinic, and construction improvements are also planned for the neighboring building at 7555 Old Auburn Road.
Earlier this month, the City Council approved a construction contract for improvements including flooring, doors, electrical and plumbing work, an accessible restroom, and other upgrades.
Helping Address the Community Cat Population
One of the clinic’s biggest goals is helping reduce the number of unwanted kittens and unaltered community cats in Citrus Heights.
Spaying and neutering community cats is a central part of trap-neuter-return, commonly called TNR. Under that approach, outdoor community cats are humanely trapped, sterilized, and then returned to the area where they live.
FieldHaven works with residents and volunteer caretakers who feed or care for feral and stray neighborhood cats.
